Street racing fools get cars seized (M6, F430)
An F430 Scuderia, chased by a white M6, headed through a residential neighbourhood here and went up Mount Seymour, a local ski hill, a few days ago. The city has a 50 km/hr limit, the ski hill road is a 60 km/hr limit. It was 10 am, and the road is primarily used by hikers at this time of year. They were clocked at 200 km/hr. Seems that after neighbours called in to complain, the radio call went to an RCMP officer who was already up the hill, and caught them in the parking lot. We just got new laws here on Sept 20 related to driving at excessive speed, and impaired driving. As a result, they got $1000 fines, licenses taken away, and cars impounded (for 7 days), all at the roadside. Local opinion is split on whether that is a lack of due process, or whether the cars should just have been crushed for scrap. Other suggestions are that punishment should relate to income, as they likely won't notice the $1000 fines. The drivers are 21 and 22 years old, and the Ferrari driver had the car for one day. No word on whether they were still on novice licenses.
Is that punishment typical in your city or state?
