Sounds fair to me. Losing your license has got to be a pain in the ass. That sounds really irresponsible though, if it is common for hikers to be on that road they should know better. I once got a ticket in northern ontario....3 hours north of toronto....clocked at 165 kmh in a 100kmh. The cop was nice enough to write me for 140kmh. He said otherwise it was a mandatory court appearance. Cost me 350 USD...then uncle sam called 3 months later and billed me for 8 points....another 400 usd or so. For the record it was on a 4 lane highway in the sticks, north of Huntsville. I have been told in NYS you can receive a felony charge for speeds in excess of 100mph (around 160kmh).
