I know what you mean. I just call places and give the specs of what I need done. Oh, exhaust work...it's 2.25 inches. Wheels...17x8 or 20x9 and 20x10, I'll bring them in for you instead of on the car (center caps removed). I know why they ask, and if it's generic work that doesn't require knowing vehicle specifics, I simply won't tell them.
