For some reason these hoses can`t take the heat and oil, they get all gummy and collaspe or rip apart. They are not expensive, but the short hose, Hummm is a bear to change, the Fire wall must be lifted to get to it. And if you notice a hint of blue smoke at the exhaust, replacing the oil separator would be a good idea.

you dan'm right! this is very common issue to these hoses area to get messed-up. I've been having the same lean issue to on the same car 4.4 M62 engine, but everytime I checked these hoses they all appear to be in great shape, like they may have been replaced not too long ago by the previous owner.
But today, I was decided to inspect a little bit farther: Meaning I checked the two that comes from the oil separator to the other end. And that's when I finally discovered a( line cut-off ) under the clamps from one of these hoses.
Well once I did not have a new hose to replace, I just removed the top hose where the clamp were sitting by cutting a little bit of and push the hose back where it belong. Well, service engine light usually come back every: 3 to 6 miles but I drove nearly 10 miles now and I haven't seen anything yet! so far, so good!!!
