It really depends on what you want. My mom's been wanting to get the new Cayenne S. She's never had a Porsche and has always had Mercedes and BMWs. She's just feels like it puts oneself in a higher group. She's all about status.

Not really going to argue on that point. As is known, Porsche do cost a lot more than comparably equipped BMW. And I've heard that maintaince and insurance cost more on the Porsche than a BMW. So if paying more constitutes reason for being in a "higher" status class. It does.

But my argument to my mom is:
(1) Do you really need all that status? BMW's are still considered a top name brand luxury car. It ain't no Toyota. Plus, with more status also comes it's own problems.
(2) With BMW's you get so much more for what you pay. The technology is fantastic!

My first choice would be the X6. I have a X5 just because we need more than 4 seats. My mom just can't accept the look of the X6, so she now has a pratically fully loaded X5 50i on order.
