We had some bitterly cold weather last winter (mid -30's C plus wind chill at times). It was our first winter in our brand new 2009 X5 diesel and we had absolutely no issues due to freezing temperatures or cold. No block heater or trickle charger, in fact our Audi's (A4 and A6) didn't have block heaters either and no issues).
