You need the pairing button in order to pair the phone. I'm pretty sure you are going to have to install the eject box, as that has the pairing button in it. The steering wheel button will not initiate the pairing on a Visteon module (which is what I assume you have).

Yup, that sounds like the problem. I will also have to assume that he is setting his phone to search for BT devices
