You need the console extension wiring harness. I received mine with my retrofit kit that I got from
http://advancedautovations.com and I'm not sure if you can buy just the extension cable as a separate component from the kit.
As you can see from the images in this article, it does work and I have the V600 installed in my 2001 (9/00 build date) -
