I had to jump start directly from the battery in the back because I was boxed in a parking space. I attempted the manual tailgate opening procedure. It did not work. I had to remove the tire, cover, etc from inside with the seats folded. What a bloody horrible design, thanks BMW.
I drove for a good hour after jump starting to hopefully fully recharge the battery and burn off some moisture.
Temp gauge still out of whack.

When is that far dead you will need to put it on a trickle charger. The alternator alone will not charge it all the way. Get the battery tested and see if it's still good. Good luck, it most likely the cold weather.
