onions - After connecting the MID, did you press the volume knob? This knob also turns the unit on and off. This is just a guess on my part.

Sorry, I wanted to give it a couple days to make sure. My solution as ridiculous as it sounds was repeatedly plugging and unplugging and a lil' jiggling.
I also found the lights flicker when I jiggled when the ignition was on. That gave me the impression that it wasn't a bad MID.
I did check to see if the MID cable would be long enough to stretch without cutting and extending but no dice. The MID cable is very much on the left side.
