 That's not true. It's actually pretty accurate. The thing is it's also damped so it doesnt move super fast relative to temp changes. It may be 5-10 degrees slow on temp changes (compared to the oiltemp readout from the Kbus) but that's to keep anal retentive customers from coming to the dealership complaining their ____ runs 2 degrees hotter/cooler than their neighbor's. 
I think the reason the 4.6/4.8is take forever for the oil to warm is that a) there's close to 9 quarts of it and b) there isnt a heat exchanger to speed oil warmup. My M5 has an under plenum coolant/oil heat exchanger and the oil gets up to temp in 2-3 min (vs 15 for the X5 unless its 100F out, then it takes 10). After I deleted the exchanger for an external cooler (because of excessive oil temps on track) it's just like my 4.6is now (10-15 to warm up).
