gas mileage

My '05 X now has 11,000 miles, and I think not yet fully broken in. Nevertheless, my trip mileage has been as high as 25, with normal being 22-23. The wind DOES make a difference, especially out on the interstates. Here in WNY, we do get some strong westerly winds and driving head on into it can make a 2-4 mpg difference. Crossing the mid-western states is the same. On my trips west from Buffalo, I'm always driving head on into the wind and mileage is 20-22. Coming back, the wind is behind us and we get 24-25. Speed is also a significant factor-made moreso when we are fighting the wind. Cross-wind is a major factor, also, as when you are sawing at the wheel to remain on a steady forward line, the speed scrubs off as the wind pushes you to the side. You then press harder on the accel pedal, and burn more fuel. Even so, I am impressed with the X mileage. Given weight and profile, anything more than 22 is D--- good. Try it in a Explorer or Tahoe! BTW, I follow the local dealer's advice on fuel, and we are using mid-grade in both cars. No noticeable diff in performance. BTW#2, we get as high as 32-34 in the 330 at 80-90 mph.We are more than satisfied with these cars.
