You guys do realize that the aftermarket warranty companies make money selling warranties? And that pricing is specific by vehicle model? Given that, it is impossible for everyone to come out on top, except the warranty company. That is just a math calculation, and it applies to all types of insurance.
If you can't afford or don't want to deal with, the cash cost impact of a breakdown, then a warranty is a good idea. You are trading overall cost (higher with a warranty), for peace of mind (security of knowing what the cost will be). That is on an average of the population. It is certainly possible for one or more people to come out ahead, but it is impossible for most to come out ahead.
