I have had the Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow for six seasons. Run them 4 mos a year. They hardly wear, min of 8/32 of 10/32 on all tires. They make a huge difference in snow and ice conditions. I have the 255/55/18 size(Sport). They will put out some noise though, not too bad. As mentioned before, Tirerack reviews will cover it.
