That was important to me as well, I am on wet and dry roads for most of the winter, with monthly trips to family 650 km away in the mountains. Four mountain passes to cross each way, so lots of freeze/thaw and poor conditions. The Dunlop Wintersports and Bridgestone Blizzaks both did very well in those conditions. When you do your research (Tire Rack is good) you will see winter tires grouped into Snow Tires, Ice Tires, Performance Winter Tires, Studless Winter tires, and so on. On this and other boards all these categories tend to get lumped together as snow tires, but it sounds like you want a performance winter tire, not a deep snow tire. Good luck.
