Maybe not at all. I was latching onto the smell of oil comment you made. Like I said its a good thing to check in your situation.

Maybe you just have a bad tensioner or bad belt and has nothing to do with the belt coming off. Finding pieces on the tray is not good - as you mentioned earlier.
