wow, quick response...thanks guys.

the SES light comes on maybe 20 seconds after warm up.

I don't know about the X5, but on my e46 i had 2 bad coils at once.

I will try the reset/manual process you suggested.

PS - is coil 1 at the radiator or firewall?
