Could well be a blocked breather for the turbo or the EGR valve on top. Sounds like the crankcase pressure is too high whatever it is. Get the codes read by someone with a scanner or a dealer sooner rather than later.

As you've got a UK Diesel, try the xdrivers site in the UK and see if anyone there can help. It's a pretty knowledgeable bunch for the oil burners.....

You should only get a puff of smoke on first cold start up in cold weather - never at any other time. Blue smoke on revs is something to sort fast. Might be a diy or easy fix too.
