Leave it to me for the thread revival I'm getting this same code, and I can tell you from working on other peoples cars that aftermarket ones from eBay, Autozone, etc for some reason simply don't work. It's either the stealership (best bet), www.getbmwparts.com (dealership parts, less markup) or maybe Autohausaz (which I'm going to order) since they have warranties.

As for them being interchangeable, unless I'm confused (I am home sick ), they're the same sensor, but one side is just the sensor while the other side is a sensor w/ a long cord.
