And to repeat what was said in the beginning of the video, by the time a car like the prius is manufactured and ready for the road it has already done as much damage to the environment as a big gas hungry SUV... I agree that hybrids/electric may be the way of the future, but the technology isn't quite there yet. I think a great hybrid would use a small diesel engine with the electrics built into the transmission (like the X6 active hybrid tranny) that switch from being a massive generator when under engine power to becoming a huge electric motor that can power the vehicle along as long as the battery holds up.
VW even made a concept car (that I would buy 2 of if it came out in the US) that gets 258 mpg on diesel without being a hybrid. It may be smaller than a smart car, but cool nonetheless.
I would use one for driving, and pull the other apart to utilize the engine in a homemade off-road buggy and drop a built up 'busa engine in the body at my friends custom bike shop.
