The idea of a box is actually growing on me and might make more sense. I just don't have a lot of room to store it when I'm not using it.

Thanks again for the links.
I understand the storage of the cargo box when it's not in use. That was a major consideration before we bought ours. I thought about hanging it from the garage ceiling but wound up buying a steel storage rack from Lowe's and using the top shelf to hold the cargo box. I used some 2x4 pieces to make sure the entire cargo box is supported as they do tend to flex or bend if not stored properly. While it's up there, I store some things inside it. The rack crossbars and some other things live inside.

I think you'd really like the box. Not only does it protect your stuff and be more aerodynamic (fuel savings, less wind noise) but you can store smaller items. For example, I often pack the cargo box and pull the internal straps tight and then remember there are a couple of jackets or loose items and I can just toss them in, close the lid and lock it up.

You'd be surprised at how much you can fit in a cargo box if packed correctly.
