Perhaps there is some confusion over the terms x-drive and 4wd. Some people use 4wd and AWD to mean different things. X-drive is just BMW's marketing name for AWD or 4wd.
Your vehicle is 4wd, or AWD, all of the time. You can't turn it off.
The centre differential does not have a separate manual locking control, it automatically locks up the internal clutches to transmit power to the axle with the most traction, starting from a baseline of approximately 40% of the torque to the front axle, 60% to the rear axle.
