Wow, this thread is pretty unbelievable! Obviously a major and consistent issue with the X5///M (and X6///M). So I guess it begs the question: are any of you doing the "3M" as a good will gesture from the dealer, or is this all fully out-of-pocket outside of BMW's domain? Maybe I'm not getting something here, but seems to me that if one already spends $90 K on a premium high-performance SUV, one should not be expected to spend thousands of dollars on top of that to correct a blatant BMW design flaw. BMW should be fully responsible for the costs of 3M-ing..and then 3Ming again....and again....and again...these vehicles.
Wow. Just wow. Doesn't BMW do long-term tests on all their prototypes? It is stunning to me that they let this issue slide past their QC. Or perhaps they did see it and figured "the buyers will just swallow it". I guess now that it is so obvious and everyone is seeing it on their less-than-1-year-old X5///Ms, the real question is: when will BMW issue a genuine recall for this? Or will they just assume that the average buyer of an X5///M has nothing better to do than to keep 3M-ing their vehicle every year until the cows come home...
