The BMW odometer has a red light that comes on if the odometer was tampered with. Standard practice, it is a small LED near the odometer readout. Probably complies with some federal legislation, but I don't have the regulation.

Resetting the odomoter for a new vehicle that has a very low mileage on it has been previously reported as a dealer capability. I suspect there is a maximum indicated mileage allowable before the system turns on the tamper light. The capability is designed to satisfy those purchasers who obsess over a few kilometers or miles showing when they pick up their new cars.
