I've taken Amtrak a few times in Virginia. Yes, it takes longer (usually an additional hour versus driving) but it's dirt cheap ($25-40) and I don't have to deal with the stress of driving, potholes, speed traps, or any of the items associated with piloting a vehicle.

Plus the seats are great, and tons of legroom.
If Virginia and NC can get the Amtrak Southeast corridor running on I-85, that'd be brilliant. I'm annoyed that Americans won't pay for an electrified one like in Europe (typical short-sighted thinking) which would allow true high speeds around 200km/h, but it beats the current Carolinian service which runs via Rocky Mount/I-95.
