Wolf, I had a piggyback on a 94 e36 320 many years ago, it was garbage. Re-mapping is the way to go. It was actually more work pulling the ecu out of the engine bay, opening it up to put the chip in, than it is to plug the laptop in via the OBD port.

And yes, JCL's tech explanation was spot on, thats exactly what happens. In fact the guy who did mine this week gets his maps from a geek, sorry, I mean 'guy' in Germany. He sits there in his white overcoat and spectacles with a blackboard behind him with loads of equations plastered all over it, and basically alters the values in the standard map to his new revised version. Then sends it to him to his laptop, then gets downloaded onto the vehicle.
