i don't know whether or not it was really "necessary".. /shrug.. but i took all the other electronics out of that metal rack that the amp is mounted to, seemed to make it easier, then I simply unbolted the frame. All of the nuts and bolts take a 10mm socket, i think there was two on the bottom, one on the side down low, one up high, and one that mounted to the back towards the hatch. (sorry, didn't think to take any pics of them when i did mine)
There is three connectors with wiring harness going into it, you can't screw them up because they only fit one way. Although the big one is a major PITA. There is no unlocking it, you just have to force it. I alternated from one side to the other using a screw driver and a hammer tapping on it till it came undone. Then unbolt the amp from the from the frame after i got the whole mess out.
