Only problem was it wasn't an old car, it was almost new. It was a 1997 model, with 2000 miles on it, so the standards that applied were those in effect for that production year. It just looked like a 1953 model (except for the wheels), and was built the same. Wood frame, covered with hand-hammered panels. The engine was a Rover T16, which was never federalized for Canada or the US, so that was an additional problem.

I could have sold it and bought a 25 year old version, that would have been legal to import under the 'use at your own risk' clause.
