Oh dear, so do I. I had the same noise, topped it up with oil and fooled myself into thinking it got quieter. Then tried to drive it to the garage. Big mistake as the whole tensioner/guide chain arrangment collapsed. The noise might be a vanaos unit, which will not do any damage for a while, but dont forget there are 3 tensioners and chains in the system. The guides and tensioner blades are made out of plastic which is not very strong when new, and is even more brittle when its been in an engine for a while, so they dont like a loose camchain.
So, my advice if you are absolutely certain the noise is coming from the camchain, is not to drive any further but to get the front of the engine open and check it out. It will be cheaper in the long run as I know from experience. However I did have the fun of rebuilding a V8 in my garage.
