Try the most common failure items first. I haven't had any problems with the intake manifold. If you did then it would more likely be a manifold gasket leak than a cracked manifold. More likely than all of that are the intake pieces before the throttle body.

I'd ask for your old part back since it was not the root cause of your problem and is likely still good.

And try some diagnosis yourself, then if you have to go to a different mechanic.

If it just won't run at all, the first thing I would try is the MAF disconnect test. It take a few seconds to try it.
