Finally got to changing the tranny oil today. Can not find the fill plug.
hello,
This is a follow up the the previous treads. I finally got the chance to attempt to change the tranny oil today. But stop in my tracks.
First I tried to find the fill plug (not the drain plug). Could not located it. I cannot located the nut shown in the DIY Articles pictures. I looked all around the tranny from the bottom of the x5. Any suggestions where it can be? Is it possible I have a different transmission? I have a 2005 x5 4.4.
While looking around the tranny for the fill plug? Found two possibilities for what might be a fill plug.
1. It does not look like a screw looks like a tap in plug (thinking the fill plug may be behind this tap plug?). It is located on the passenger side near the rear of the transmission. I attached a picture. It is a "plug" that has a black dot in the middle of it. It does not look like I can pry this plug off.
2. Looks like the drain screw same size and look like the drain plug. Look like a 5mm hex, but not sure of the size my hex key is not long enough to reach it. It is located on the driver side in the middle of the tranny 3 to 4 inches high from the bottom of the tranny. It is located about 1 inch above the area where the oil lines that goes to the radiator enter the tranny. Sorry cannot take a good picture of it. The screw that I am talking above is not the gold one in the front (not the focus one) It is the blurry gold screw behind the one in that is in focus.
Could one of these be the fill plug? Any other ideas where the fill plug be?
thanks
Sorry no pictures. It said I need a security token?
