I'm not sure what you mean by just the sensor. A MAF is a sensor, it's a 3.5" tube with the sensor built in. And your engine harness has a connector that plugs into in to the sensor, which is proprietary to our cars. So even if they gutted the tube and took the actual sensor from a Mercedes, and it happened to be the same calibration as ours, it would still need the connector spliced in to your harness.

Unless I'm missing something...

I thought the same thing, I don't know any other vehicle that uses the Bosch 814 MAF besides BMW & Range Rover vehicles with the m62.
