I am in the middle of rebuilding mine right now (5hp24 for the V8). I'm not sure I would have tried it if I didn't have access to a lift. I dropped the entire exhaust as one piece, and the tranny is 200+ lbs...so have a buddy to help. I had mine out in less than 4 hours, stripped in around 2. So far it has been pretty straight forward. I had 148k on mine and it looks brand new inside, except for a fragged needle bearing and a snapped o-ring. Excellent posts here like the CivDiv's and TriX5's, and a few on land rover sites, will essentially give you the script on what to expect. I might not even bother with the ZF manual, some jaguar guy posted the pdf of it u can download, but it's not very good. I've used the parts manual mainly. You will need lots of clean bench space for the internals, parts washer would be nice, but I was able to disassemble with no special tools. A torx T-27 is about the only tool I've had to buy so far. If you are replacing clutch plates, some are held in by a simple snap-ring, but the ones in the back are a little trickier, but I saw a guy's post where he used a $5 sink drain from home depot for the tool. It's a big job, but worth saving $4k or more if you got the time and the inclination.
