My experience, though mine includes adding ballasts:

The AEs -DO- splice in, so that they can operate with lock/unlock interior lights and the daytime running lights function, i.e., my AE's are DRL's. Else they would splice in to parking light wires, if that is your preference, but there is no plug to serve them nativly. DRL's is what my instructions described.
Not sure what AES is, sorry, but if you are pursuing AE facelift, don't forget the side markers and tail-lights - IMHO, it looks a little strange to have clears front and yellow/orange the rest of the way back, or the ghastly yellow bulbs showing through the clears.
