Hey All - thanks for your responses.
BMW covered the replacement of the CID (not sure exactly what that stands for.. computer internal display? - elsewhere it refers to the onboard monitor). Here is what the paperwork referred to: Fault A165A, Fault Internal, Perform Test Plan D6581-CID00000-90-003.
Is it possible to update the iDrive? I've enjoyed the newest iDrive system in a couple recent loaner cars, and while the version in my X5 isn't bad, if I can upgrade, I'd be interested. I'll do some searches on the forums.
