The only catch w/ the Peake reader is that BMW is going away w/ the round port in their cars, my 01 X5 for example. So on top of spending $150 for the reader, you've sometimes gotta buy the round to OBDII port adapter cable....at $80 friggin bucks, for a cord! Fortunately, i made my own for around $10 after searching for homemade Peake adapter.

The Peake is a middle ground tool, sitting between a custom laptop for a few hundred dollars (which the laptop does FAR more (which can also be good and bad depending on the user) and can be cheaper than the Peake and adapter combo) and the OBDII bluetooth tool that I got off eBay for $20 paired w/ using a free app on my phone.

To each their own though.
