Update -

I was told when I bought the vehicle recently that both mirrors had been replaced with non electric folding mirrors so I assumed such. As it turns out only the drivers side mirror was.....

So obviously I tried what you said.. It does fix it somewhat but it is still loose when in the open position and can be moved easily and when I press the button it closes and then opens again (i.e. doesn't stay in the closed position).
