I spent a fair bit of time looking into replacing my cradle (2009 music type baseplate) with the newer 2012 media baseplate that supports apps.

What I can tell you is, it's easy to unscrew the actual baseplate from the center console however a pita to disconnect the baseplate wiring from the car. The connector is below the center console and the only way to access this is to dismantle the center console which is time consuming. I thus gave up as it wasn't worth the effort or time.
