Decided it was time for an update to this thread, see who else is starting to think about cycling as we head into spring.
My wife and I got out riding last weekend, it was about 3 C but sunny. Great ride, a little cold when we hit fog half way through but good in the sun. Just over 50 km, a nice way to start the season. Took the Trek and Cervelo R3, the tandem is staying clean for now.
I did finally get my new road bike referenced in the posts above. I have been riding a Trek 5200 OCLV carbon for quite a few years, and I put new custom wheels on it last year (DT Swiss rims and spokes, with Shimano hubs) but there was a sale on at the LBS, so.....
Presenting the new bike, a 2012 Cervelo R5 VWD. It has the new frame geometry with tapered head tube, BBright bottom bracket, and thin seat stays. 61 cm in my case. Cervelo fork, 3T LTD stem, handlebar, and seat post. Saddle is a fi'zi:k Arione CX Braided. Fulcrum wheels, standard, which I will use for now while I think about lighter wheels. Maybe Fulcrum Racing 1s in a 2-way fit (tubeless/clincher), we'll see. I added Speedplay Zero Stainless pedals, an Elite bottle cage, and got a new pair of Sidi shoes. That means I can leave the Shimano SPD-SL cleats on the old shoes. I have three shoe and cleat combinations now, between the tandem, Trek, and new bike. Biggest decision was to go Campagnolo. They had it available with a full Campy grupo, in this case Super Record 11. Never seen so much carbon and titanium. It was beautiful. Between three bikes I currently have Ultegra, Dura Ace 7800, and my wife has Dura Ace 7900, and they all work great, but this became a lust decision rather than a practical decision. They had the same frame built up with Ultegra 6700, but I decided it was time to try Campy, especially considering that this is a traditional frame (not aero) and so the Campy felt right. I haven't been through the fitting exercise yet, so the steering tube still needs to be cut down, but here it is as I brought it home.
