CPO vs Non-CPO

Hello everyone! I'm from NJ and new to the forum. In the next 6 weeks or so, I'll be in the market for a new SUV. I currently have a 07 Ford Edge that I'm looking to significantly upgrade to either an E70 X5, Q7 or MDX, all either 08 -10 models. My heart screams X5 while my brain says MDX and the Q7 seems like the happy medium. I've found non-CPO X5's (3.0) on the market in NJ for under 30K with fairly low mileage (<50,000) in the 27 - 29k range. These vehicles are usually found on the 'high end' used car dealer lots, obviously these cars are not CPO, however, when I check the similar CPO cars @ BMW dealers I'm seeing pricing @ 35-37K. My question, is getting a CPO vehicle under BMW worth the hefty 6 to 8K premium? Are the benefits to the CPO really worth it? I do have a very good mechanic that services Euros who is very reasonable with his rates.

Sorry for the long winded 1st post but after perusing the forums here, I trust what you all have to say on this matter.

Thanks
