e53 Aftermarket Stereo install Question

Hi All,

I've done a fair bit of searching for this issue but can't find the exact details I'm looking for.

I have a 2000 X5 4.4 with Nav and no DSP on the 4:3 display. The radio stops working periodically and the screen is mostly useless either rotating display or freezing.

So to keep the wife happy I wanted to upgrade to a DDIN aftermarket stereo. I don't care about the NAV or the OBC (too many dead pixels anyway)

Since I have the 4:3 NAV and the radio is in the trunk; my plan is to run wires from the head unit area back to the trunk and splice into the radio wires there for sound, power, antenna, etc and re use the factory amp and speaker wiring.

Has anyone done this and can verify this approach? Any tips or gotchas to be aware of? I would like to keep the factory amp and speakers if I don't have to mess with them.

Thanks in advance!
