next step for me would be to find someone in your area that has an MKIV and try swapping units to see if the problem remains with your vehicle or if it follows over to the donor vehicle. If it follows then you know you have a bad MKIV unit.

I once had a MKIV that worked perfectly except that it woud not store addresses. Sometimes there are fluky problems that are specific to a given unit.
