"should" or "shouldn't", I will not say.
But I can tell you that a car driven hard and shifted at full throttle repeatedly will NOT last as long as one driven by my wife.
Just the nature of these things.
If you will be trading the car it, if you have a warranty, if you don't care about maybe paying a large repair bill, just thrash it. But letting the tranny shift without load, not being at full throttle, will lead to longer transmission life. If this is 100k, or 200k, I cannot venture a guess- we've seen failures in plenty of X53s as I recall.... has BMW made new trannies that are immune to failure? Probably not.
So nobody can make lifetime predictions- but I think most can agree that driving more energy into a tranny will lead to accelerated wear. The only thing left to bicker about is the rate of this accelaration and if we will experience this during our ownerships.
