Yes, BMW have offered tuning options for the V8.
One point is that a complete approach (in the opinion of some of us) to a tune involves new software that keeps all the standard safeties in place, vs fooling various sensors with offsets.
A second point is that if you take more hp out of a given engine, whether by changing rating or duty cycle, it wears faster. That may or may not impact any owner during their ownership period, as they may not reach the wear limit.
