If you don't want it there, put it somewhere else. Here are two threads with alternate mounting locations for the standard AUX input:

I used an Icelink myself, and ran it under the console to the cup holder, then mounted the iPod to the lobster claw tray.
If you don't want any integration to your steering wheel controls (for other than volume) then the BMW aux is fine. If you want to control the device, the Icelink, later called the DICE, worked well.
