There is no 3-2 shift valve, as such, in the 5HP24.
To initiate the shift, which involves ditching the D-brake and engaging the E-brake while the A-clutch stays engaged, solenoid valve 1 is switched on to direct pressure to stroke shift valve 2 (SV-2) against its spring
At the same time, pressure regulating solenoid 2 which activates the D-brake clutch (KV-D) & holding (HV-D) valves is turned off while pressure regulating solenoid 5 which activates the E-brake clutch (KV-E) & holding (HV-E) valves is turned on
I thought, therefore, that maybe shift valve 2 was what they were describing as the 3-2 shift valve (though it’s also ‘engaged’ in 1st gear too, as well as Park & Neutral)
Jerky rollout shifts aren’t nearly as common with the 5HP24 as they are with the 6HP26 but a couple of guys over on rangerovers.net have also complained about this problem with their 5HP24s and one was in the UK, like me, so I asked him to send me his valve block to check. When I stripped it there was no evidence whatsoever of a problem with the valve block and the SV-2 spring free length was correct at 46.0 mm
Clutch valves KV-D and KV-E both use the same spring as SV-2 so their free lengths should all be 46.0 mm
Holding valves HV-D and HV-E use identical springs to each other with a free length of 43.6 mm
