Pretty much the same with air springs,isn't it?
What happens to any inflated ball when it hits the ground?
It bounces back,now if it had a shock absorber,it wouldn't let it get to that point,and when it would get back to its original shape,absorber would slow down the process.Therefore it wouldn't jump as kinetic energy would get absorbed and converted into other type of energy on that scale.
