I strongly recommend you spend the twenty bucks and buy a DVD repair manual on the Internet. I bought one two years ago and found that in some instances BMW has employed some unusual techniques. Unusual to me in any event.

For example when I recently changed out the radiator on my 08 3.0Si, which obviously requires refilling the cooling system, I was directed to set the heater to max, turn the heater fan to min, attach a battery charger to the battery, and without starting the engine, bring on the ignition, while holding the accelerator pedal in the fully depressed position for 10 seconds. This causes the electric coolant pump to cycle for 12 minutes.

This required some gymnastics, as once the ignition is on and the pump running, opening the driver's door to exit the vehicle causes the car to go into self protect mode and shut itself off.

Your engine may require some additional complexities, like wearing clown shoes and use of a trapeze.

Ciao,
Dick
