Not the case, I've owned a '79 6.6L Trans Am, '96 Cobra Mustang and '96 Viper that have all needed diffs replaced. TA had ring/pinion failure around 40k miles, dealer laughed when I asked for goodwill repair, high speed humm noise at 20k with the Cobra (warranty repair), high speed humm at 90k with the Viper, Kenyon Dodge in Clearwater, FL goodwilled that diff.
