I could envision a careful argument that makes the case that there was some unidentified defect in the leather that caused the failure...but without pictures and details, we cannot help you. You should know that 'normal wear and tear' and 'abuse' are excluded. YOUR challenge will be to make a case saying this is an abnormal situation NOT due to how you were using it. AND make sure this is conveyed to BMWNA as they are considering the claim. Hopefully you will take some input here BEFORE it goes to bmwna, better to start out with a strong claim...
